What it the “Money Saver Event”?

If you are like me, you dislike waste. Or maybe you just prefer to save money! Every year there are left over medals, trophies and more that end up being wasted. The money saver will  take care of this. This event will be no different than any regular event only the prizes will be a variety of different medals & trophies from past events. So one groups 1st place trophy may be different than anothers because they are all left over trophies from past years. Still new, still shiny, just with no home. The trophy or medal will still correspond with what a dancer receives it just may be different from someone else’s. These lonely trophies have been waiting for their forever home - let’s find them a home!

Another great thing about this money saver event is that its early in the season. What does that mean for you? Maybe you can use it as a first event practice rehearsal. You’ll get the same high level competition at a fraction of the price. We still have the expense of judges and venue but if we can save on the purchase of medals and trophies and we’d like to pass the savings onto you. This is a one time event that will only run when we find we are loaded with left over hardware. 

But I’ve heard that the Chilliwack theatre has a slippery stage? No worries, we have been informed by reputable studios that the floor has been redone and is great for dancing on now! We have also been told there is no tap or stage allowed on their marley so becuase we can not meet those limitations we will not put down the marley but trust that the floor is now ready for dancers!!!

The computer will calculate the ages by adding all ages (as of March 31st) and dividing by the number of dancers, then dropping the decimal. For example if the average age came to 14.9 your routine would be entered under 14 years.

*All dancers must dance a minimum of 70% of the choreographed routine. 

Starting 2025, we will no longer be accepting studios entering solos only. A studio MUST enter groups if they are entering solos.

Our reasoning is simple. Its not fair to other studios who bring all their dancers and soloists who are independant are taking all the high score awards. 

We hope you understand we are doing this for our loyal studios.

There will be very well qualified judges for all Star Talent competitions with knowledge & experience in all styles of dance. Please remember that this is only their opinions and please respect it as that. Each judge will be given a point system out of 100 and will be averaged out. We have divided the categories up into 7 divisions from Silver to Star and dancers will be awarded in order of where their score falls. 

*All decisions from the judges will be considered final.

To ensure your spot at any Star Talent event, please submit your entries and payment early to avoid disappointment. 

Early Bird Fees; ALL Fees Due by October 31st

Regular Fees: ALL Fees Due by Jan 15th

Late Fees: Fees Paid for no Later than 3 weeks prior to your event with deposit paid on registration.

Unfortunately late entries or unpaid entries will not guarantee your spot in an event and will result in late fees should space be availble.

Dancers may enter unlimited solos however:

Soloists will only be rewarded 1 time in the top 5 of their age at the solo award ceremony and will be rewarded with only their highest achievement. EG: If they place both 1st and 2nd they will only be rewarded with a 1st place. This means that they were in fact, the highest scoring soloist of the event and the 2nd place will go to the second highest scoring soloist of the event after them. If there is a tie, the higher ranking will go to the soloist with the highest individual score from either one of the judges. 

If a dancer has 2 solos in the same genre one solo must be moved into the OPEN category or another suitable category so they do not compete against them-self.

No recording devices or flash photography of any kind will be permitted in the theater. We thank you for your cooperation and adherence to this rule. Studio’s own the rights to their own choreography. Photos and Videos are included in your entry fee price

Star Talent will open the building and dressing rooms 1 hour prior to competition start time, and close 1 hour after the last awards session. Please do not arrive earlier than 1 hour prior to start time in the morning. We appreciate you and do not want to turn you away due to setting up.

All music must be on uploaded as soon as possible. There is an "upload Music" video on our home page that will walk you through it if you are struggling.

Absolutely no coaching from teachers in the wings. Mini's and all dancers are expected to be prepared and well rehearsed by the date of your competition.

Entry fees are non-refundable but can be transferred to another Star Talent event location (preferably within the same season) if space permits. 

In the event it is illegal to run an event as a result of flood, earthquake, disease or political unrest events will be postponed into the future and rescheduled for when it is possible to do so. This credit will be in the dance studios name only.

In the case of an injury, for medical reasons only, registrants may apply for a credit in their studio's name. Credit belongs to the dance studio and not the individual dancer. Credits must be pre-approved by submitting a doctor’s note. No credits will be provided once the event has started. 

All studio credits are made out to the dance studio and will not be issued to any dancers directly.  If a dancer changes studios the following season, they will forfeit their credit.

Dancers do not need to check in. All your fun will be on stage!!! 

Photogenic competition is $15 to enter. A physical photo can be submitted at the merch counter with the dancer's name, age and studio printing on the back. Or you can enter by sending the photo and information to startalentcomp@gmail.com without having to print your photo at all. E-transfers can be made to this same email just put photogenic/dancers name in the comments. Cut off is the evening before the last day of your event,

Make sure your dancer signs up for our FREE skills competition. Best jump, best pirouette and most flexible position!! There are prizes for each winner and they ARE judged according to each person's age so that our younger kids can play too! See your host backstage to sign up. You got this!!!! 

Dancers willing to trade in their medals receive $2/towards merch per medal. Medals must still be in good condition. If you'd like to save your highest and cash in your other 5, that's $10 off merch.

We now have pins with your medal standing on them for only $3. You may not be able to show off your medal to friends at school but grab a pin for $3 and wear it proudly cause you worked hard for it!!

Please bring a recent 5X7 or 8X10 head shot or email one to startalentcomp@gmail.com. Please have all photos labeled clearly on the back or in your email, with: Studio Name, Dancers Name and Age as of the 1st day of competition. There will be a charge of $15 per entry paid by cash, debit, credit or studio cheque.

Photogenic awards will be awarded at the Final award ceremony. There will be a 12 and under with  1st place and runner up as well as a 13+ with 1st placement and runner up awarded.

What is the Extreme Soloist?

Each Year we will announce our highest scoring soloist of the season and their names will make our Star Talent Extreme Soloist Trophy!!!

2021 Extreme Soloist was Alexis from Legacy Dance Productions. 

2022 Extreme Soloist was Andrea from Coast Academy of Dance.

2023 Extreme Soloist was Milana from Abbotsford Dance Center.

This is automatically open to all soloists competiting and is the highest scoreing soloist for their level.

Star Talent changes their cash awards EVERY season in order to keep things interesting and reward different people. Sometimes the focus is on the dancers, other years on the studios and other years on the choreographers or genres. 

Star Talent reserves the right to change the awards based on the total number of entries. Cash awards are issued to the studio only. 

A studio representative should be present for every overall award session to receive trophies and scholarships. Trophies and scholarships will not be mailed after the event.

A studio score summary will be e-mailed to the studio director following the competition. Cash awards will be remitted to the studio director following the competition.
